THE ‘MONSTER’ will race again at Le Mans this year, thanks to Chiddingfold vintage vehicles enthusiasts Derek and Pat Drinkwater.

The couple have built a replica of an original Cadillac Series 61 raced at Le Mans by its American pilot owner Briggs Cunningham in 1950, which was so big it was christened ‘Le Monstre’ by spectators.

They have high hopes for their speedster in the Le Mans Classic in July, after it came first in class last year at Brands Hatch.

The couple, who run a vintage vehicles mobile catering business, held an open day for fellow enthusiasts on Sunday to show off their collection, with donations for children’s charity Keen London.

Mr Drinkwater said: “It was really busy with visitors coming from as far afield as Southampton. It’s nice to meet up and most bring their classic cars.”
