THOUSANDS of people across East Hampshire have endured a nightmare end to the year following one of the worst storms in living memory.

The damage caused by the gales and heavy rain that lashed the south on December 23 meant Christmas was cancelled for many people.

Several properties in Liss and Harting were flooded while hundreds of people in rural parts of the district went days without power.

Public transport was also badly effected with a series of landslides closing the railway line between Petersfield and Haslemere.
