MORE measures to prevent traveller incursions are being installed in the Farnham area, this time at Wrecclesham Recreation Ground.
According to a post in the Wrecclesham Village Voice Facebook page, additional “site security works” are planned to begin between now and March, with preparations already under way.
Around 175 cubic metres of subsoil and topsoil were delivered by lorry to the site last week ahead of the works.
The materials are being moved from a council project in Haslemere to be re-used in earth bunds (man-made earth barriers) at the recreation ground.
There is an unmade car park opposite the grounds where the materials will be stored temporarily.
Farnham town councillor Paula Dunsmore said: “I have sent out letters to the main businesses in The Street, and also to the nearest residents in The Street and Riverdale, requesting that they do not park vehicles in the car park while the works are in progress.
“I have also put up four posters on stakes around the car park.”
It follows height restriction barriers being built in several Farnham car park entrances, including Waggon Yard car park and Upper Hart, also to prevent traveller incursions.
There were mixed responses from local residents about the barriers, especially since they still remain incomplete.
But, it was not just residents who were in the dark about the plans, with councillors too left feeling frustrated by the lack of consultation from Waverley Borough Council.
At the last meeting of Farnham Town Council meeting, town clerk Iain Lynch said that he had “been asked to pass on an apology that [consultation] hadn’t taken place earlier”.
