MORE concerns have been raised about Hart’s local plan, with the latest fears being bought to the fore by the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE).
The CPRE is concerned that Hart District Council may be going “headlong” for a new town in Winchfield, despite there being no case made.
The consultation from Hart District Council is now open for comments until March 18, having been stopped last month for a new plan to be drawn up.
But planning experts at CPRE, one of the leading countryside conservation charities, say that any site chosen has to meet the criteria of being both suitable and sustainable.
They believe a new town in Winchfield should be a last resort, as it would be damaging to an area of environmental sensitivity.
Edward Dawson, chairman of the North East Hampshire District Group, said: “We appreciate the need for more housing and do not wish to see this blocked, but location of future housing is vitally important. We want to emphasise the need to find more suitable brownfield sites.
“The consultation also threatens to create a divided district, with each town or village resisting development, while lacking a cohesive vision. The local plan needs to be a positive statement for the future, and contain a clear vision most people agree with.”
