FARNHAM has again suffered a set-back in its battle against graffiti after vandals went on the rampage on Tuesday night.
Walls, shops and a total of nine cars were defaced with obscenities and sketches on a spraying spree that covered St Mark's Place, Alma Lane, Stuart Road and Sandy Hill.
With the cost of the damage amounting to around £3,500, this latest incident serves as the most expensive of a recent bout of graffiti attacks.
Chief Inspector Andrew Nielsen believes the events of Tuesday night are a blow to Farnham police's efforts in stopping the problem.
He said: "It is a real disappointment that graffiti is appearing again in Sandy Hill after all the time, trouble and effort that has gone into tidying up this area.
"What's particularly unpleasant on this occasion is the abusive words they have chosen to use.
"It's one thing to spray tags, but obscene words really make it especially distressing for local residents."
He added: "It's probably just one or two individuals causing all this damage, but we do still need the public's help to stop this before it gets out of control.
"We're hoping that someone will get in touch with the station, or if they would like to call anonymously, to call CrimeStoppers."
Anyone with information about graffiti in Farnham should call Farnham police direct on 716262 or CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111.
