FARNHAM Help for Refugees, which supports Syrian refugees in the UK, Europe and the Middle East, is appealing for donations as it hosts a collection service from 2pm to 7pm on Thursday, June 1, at Hale Scout Hut on Wings Road.
Set up by Farnham residents, the group wishes to give humanitarian assistance to refugees coming into the UK, travelling across Europe and in camps in the Middle East.
This will be the sixth collection arranged by the group since they came together in autumn 2015. According to members Farnham has been very supportive in the previous collections and they hope this collection will be just as successful.
A number of items are needed from basic medical equipment and toiletries, to manual sewing machines that can enable refugees to make and mend items themselves, as well as clothes and shoes for all ages, female and male.
There is a great need for baby items too, nappies (including reusable ones) and wipes would be warmly welcomed, as well as baby clothes, blankets and moses baskets.
Other items include toothbrushes and toothpaste; shampoo; soap and shower gel; nappy rash cream; waterproof coats and jackets; fleeces and hoodies; first aid packs; crutches, wheelchairs and walking sticks; and unopened non-prescription drugs.
A full list can of items can be found on the Facebook page, ’Farnham Help for Syrian Refugees in UK and Overseas’.
The group is looking for volunteers to help sort through all the donations on the Thursday afternoon/early evening. If anyone is able to come, even for an hour, contact the group via their Facebook page.
