The village of Sheet held a street party on Sunday to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

The centre of the village, decked with banners and bunting, provided a colourful scene as more than 300 people gathered to toast the king on this important occasion.

Organised by Jayne Flatt and her team, the event was greatly enjoyed by everyone and the sun shone.

The coronation cake competition, which drew some fascinating and clever designs,  produced ten entries. It was won by Rohann Still with the cake pictured below left.

The under-12 category was won by Ralph Cousen with his cake decorated with soldiers.

Also drawing many visitors was a memorable exhibition put together by local artist Frank Jennings who was head of art, design and media at South Downs College from 1983 to 2008.

The display showed the village and the lives of its inhabitants from the time over a century ago, when Sheet had a toll gate by the bridge, right up to the present day.

Jayne Flatt and her committee were the inspiration behind the street party and led the event bringing the village together to celebrate.

The evening ended with live music in the garden of The Queen’s Head pub.
