MORRIS men in Hook celebrating a milestone anniversary this year.

The Eagles are turning 25 this year, having been a part of life in Hook and surrounding villages since they were founded in 1991.

The highlight of their celebrations will be a performance on St George’s Day (April 23) when they will be joined by a host of other dancers from across the south of England for a day of "dancing, drinking, and other anniversary festivities".

The group was initially formed as part of an auction to raise funds for an extension to the St John the Evangelist Church in Hook and the group grew steadily from that point, with a move from dancing with bells and hankies to big sticks.

Their evolution also saw a move to the blackened faces they now sport, which bring “disguise and general merriment” to any occasion, according to a club member.

Their celebrations this year will also see a continuation of their long-standing tradition of raising funds for charities and good causes, in particular those supporting youngsters.
