A SOAPBOX team have sold their car on eBay, donating the money raised to the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.
Graham Standing from Aldershot Car & Metal Recyclers took part in the 2019 Farnham Soapbox with his team – Team Car & Metal Recyclers – which won the title of Most Creative.
The car was converted from an off-road buggy into a soapbox, which would meet the strict standards of the Farnham Soapbox regulations.
On his inspiration for the car, Graham said: “After watching episode after episode of Red Bull Soapboxes on TV, we noticed no-one had made a recovery truck, so we thought it would be a unique design.”
The truck came equipped with lights, musical airhorns and a confetti cannon.
After their success, the team decided the sell the car on eBay so “someone else could have as much fun racing it” as the team did.
It was sold for £200, which was donated to the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.
“It’s a charity close to our hearts because they cared for Angela’s younger brother, Kelvin,” said Graham.
“They gave him the best treatment possible and we will always be grateful.”
Charli Quay-Barnham, community fundraising manager at Phyllis Tuckwell, thanked the team for donating the proceeds of the sale of their “fantastic soapbox” to the good cause.
Charli added: “That £200 could pay for a week’s worth of transport for our patients, enabling them to be picked up from their homes and taken to our sessions, appointments and groups at the Hospice and Beacon Centre, which they might otherwise not be able to attend.”
