A MAN from Alton remains in a critical condition at Frimley Park Hospital following a fatal car crash on the A31 on Tuesday evening which claimed the lives of a mother and son.

The man (36), who has not be named, was driving a Ford Sierra towards Alton, when he was involved in a collision with an MG sports car travelling towards Farnham which had crossed the central reservation.

The crash happened at 5-45 pm, about 500 metres north of the Hen and Chicken public house near Upper Froyle.

Ambulances from Tongham and Hampshire arrived at the scene and the A31 was closed between the Bentley turn off and the Holybourne roundabout until 11 pm.

The A31 closure resulted in further problems when peak-time traffic had to be diverted through small neighboruing villages including Froyle and Binsted.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident, which happened at a busy time of day.

They also want to hear from anyone who may have seen the MG car heading northbound on the A31 prior to the collision.

Anyone who can help is urged to call Whitehill Traffic on 0845 045 45 45.
