MOTORISTS in Farnham have had to put up with "a rash of potholes" this year according to county councillors who are now urging residents to report them straight away. The plea came ahead of an incident in the Lower Bourne on Monday morning which saw five vehicles suffer flat tyres as a result of striking a large pothole on the A287. Simon Evans, who lives in Gardener's Hill Road, described how his wife had hit the dangerous pothole after dropping their children off at school. "When she stopped there were four other cars all with flat tyres because of the same pothole," he explained. "The potholes are always bad along here and I've complained about them before but nothing ever gets done. I had to come out and put the spare tyre on the car and apparently it took somebody suffering serious damage to a wheel before it was finally filled in later in the day." Surrey councillors Pat Frost and David Munro have recognised that the recent bad weather has caused a number of potholes on local roads and they are now urging motorists to let the council know about them. Mr Munro said: "Winter rain and periods of frost always encourage potholes and this winter is no exception - in fact I don't remember them ever being so numerous. "The council has a strict repair priority so that the dangerous ones are dealt with first as a matter of urgency, but all will be repaired as soon as possible." Mr Munro's comments were echoed by Mrs Frost who went on to urge people to help by reporting the dangerous dips and cracks in road surfaces. "I would ask residents to be a little patient as the council does its best to deal with the recent rash of potholes," she said. "Meanwhile, it would be a great help if the public reported them promptly so that their existence can be recorded without delay, without waiting for the highways inspection team to discover them."
