CAMPAIGNERS battling to improve road safety at St Bartholomew's Primary School in Haslemere have won the backing of town MP Jeremy Hunt, the Health Secretary.
A small stretch of Derby Road, which is heavily used by the more than 370 pupils walking, cycling or being driven to the local state school has been condemned as "appalling".
But efforts to get Surrey County Council to carry out the vital repairs have failed so far because, due to an historical quirk, the small area of road is private.
And the contrast between its dilapidated state and the rest of Derby Road has become even more apparent following Surrey's recent resurfacing of the street.
