FARNHAM MP Jeremy Hunt has congratulated “one of our brightest lights” Janet Maines after the community stalwart made an MBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list.

As reported in last week’s Herald, the former Lib Dem councillor and current chairman of the 40 Degreez youth centre board of trustees was recognised for services to the community last week after more than 30 years of public service.

Putting aside their political differences, Mr Hunt said: “Janet’s commitment to our community is boundless, not least with her support for the 40 Degreez centre which has helped so many young people in Farnham.

“The fact that she has continued so many good works after her career as a councillor shows her heart is well and truly in the right place - we are truly lucky to have her as one of our brightest lights.”
