MP Damian Hinds will host the second of a series Dementia Friends information events in Petersfield next month.
Several are planned across East Hampshire to raise awareness of dementia and the Petersfield session will be held in the community centre, off Ramshill, on Friday, December 11, from 6pm-7pm.
The Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Friends programme has been set up to tackle the stigma of dementia that can result in people with the condition experiencing loneliness and social isolation. The society aims to create more communities and businesses that are dementia friendly so that people affected feel understood and included.
To achieve this aim, volunteer Dementia Friends champions run information sessions to boost awareness and understanding about the condition and to help the society reach their target of creating more than four million such friends by 2020.
Mr Hinds said: “One way I can support this aim has been to become a Dementia Friend champion and to run information sessions which aim to create a better understanding of how we as a community can support people with this condition, and I hope as many people as possible will be able to join me for this event.”
