DRIVING Miss Daisy Farnham, a local companion driving service, celebrated an exciting new addition to its fleet with tea and cake at the Maltings.

It now has a wheelchair-accessible vehicle which can transport and accompany anyone who is permanently in a wheelchair with two companions.

The team at Driving Miss Daisy Farnham offered complimentary transport to their customers to attend the celebrations last month. The event was buzzing with loyal customers, friends and other Daisy colleagues.

After tea, MP Jeremy Hunt said a few words and cut the cake to commemorate the event. He highlighted the two major issues facing today’s society, an ageing population and increasing loneliness, both of which are being addressed by Driving Miss Daisy.

Tori Lumb and Jocelyn Close are joint owners of the firm. Tori said: “We see a growing need for the type of support we offer our customers, and hope we’ll be able to help a new set of customers with our wheelchair accessible car which has recently come into service.”

Jocelyn added: “Our business has grown dramatically in the last 18 months and has many regular customers to whom we offer companionship and transportation.

“We’re been thrilled to have met so many wonderful clients, who’ve added a sparkle to our days, we sincerely hope we’ve managed to add something to theirs too.

“The testimonials and good news stories we’ve had certainly have made us feel proud of the service we provide.”

Driving Miss Daisy makes life easier for those who find getting out and about difficult, feel slightly isolated or need support.

The service can be used for medical appointments, the hairdressers, meeting friends or taking a pet to the vet. It’s also perfect for shopping trips, shared social outings with friends, and for busy parents needing help with taking children to and from school and activities.

Driving Miss Daisy in Farnham recently launched a new service offering companionship and befriending, to help alleviate loneliness and isolation.

All companions are police checked, first aid trained and Dementia Friends and undergo an internal training programme.
