SOUTH West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt has secured a meeting with the Postal Affairs Minister Pat McFadden, to highlight concerns surrounding government plans to shut 2,500 post offices across the UK. In South West Surrey, this could mean the closure of at least four more post offices, despite the fact that five post offices have already been closed down since 1999. Jeremy Hunt, who is MP for Haslemere, wants to use the meeting on Wednesday, October 31, to raise the concerns of residents over post office closures. He is urging people to contact him at [email protected]">[email protected] if they have something they would like him to put to the Minister. Mr Hunt this week said he was fighting to save all of South West Surrey's post offices from closure as he believes they play such an important role in community life, and their closure would particularly affect the older and more vulnerable people who depend on them. He said: "Saving our local post offices – which are so often right at the heart of local communities – is a key concern of many people in South West Surrey.  "When I heard about the government's plans for further closures, I wrote straight away to the Secretary of State and I am now pleased to have the chance to meet with the Minister responsible for Postal Affairs.  "He needs to understand that there is more to post offices than simply the services offered by the postal service – they are the heart of many small, but vulnerable local communities."
