EAST Hampshire MP Damian Hinds was in town for Small Business Saturday to meet some of Alton’s newest retailers.
Welcoming Mr Hinds into their shops were Gordon Bunday, owner of Hampshire Home Company (furniture and home accessories) in Normandy Street, Alli McDowell, of Katy Mae (ladies fashion), Gemma Bogue, of Bows and Bouquets, and Jackie Parker, of Little Vintage Interiors, all in Market Street. Mr Hinds also called in on Jean Pharo, of Hat Tricks (hat shop), and Faye Bobillier, of Sweet Chocolate (sweets and chocolate), who both trade in Westbrook Walk.
Mr Hinds said: “Seeing new shops open around the town centre is fantastic and it’s been great to get out and support Small Business Saturday, meeting business owners and hearing about their plans.
“I think Alton offers enormous potential for retailers and it bodes well for the future that so many ventures are starting life in and around the High Street.”
He added: “I was also delighted to hear about the funding for a business development manager and I would like to commend both Alton Town Council and East Hampshire District Council for working together to make this happen. I am sure the role has the potential to make a big difference for the town.”
