MP for South West Surrey Jeremy Hunt cut the ribbon marking the official opening of community-based programme Post19’s new Farnham premises.
The group’s new home situated at Romans Industrial Park in East Street, also brings with it a number of new opportunities for the young adults that use it, such as carpentry and car validating.
Post 19 is a community-based programme aimed at young adults with learning difficulties in Farnham. The group supports the young adults with work and life skills both at the centre and in the community.
While some of their courses are at base, they head out into the community as much as possible and the new location will enable the young adults to become more independent going into town and travelling on public transport.
The group provides a range of work-based activities, including motorbike mechanics and graphic design, as well as working with Farnham Pottery, Phyllis Tuckwell furniture and Farnham in Bloom, where the team help to plant all the plug plants for the displays during the summer.
In their new premises they hope to provide opportunities to develop catering skills, which may lead to future employment.
Carole Goldworthy, general manager at Post19, said: “The new premises are much bigger and so much better than before. There is much more space which a lot of our young adults need.
“And we are nearer to the centre of town, closer to the bus routes and to the sports centre where we go, and we help out with Farnham in Bloom so we will be closer for that as well.
“We raised the money through fundraising activities, and our young adults made mugs at Farnham Pottery to sell. We’ve had a good response so far. Everyone is pleased and the parents are really impressed and all very happy.”
