EAST Hampshire MP Damian Hinds is set to host the first of several Dementia Friends information events across East Hampshire on Friday, October 9, at Alton Community Centre, between 6pm and 7pm.

The Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Friends programme has been set up to tackle the stigma of dementia that can result in people with the condition experiencing loneliness and social isolation. The society aims to create more communities and businesses that are dementia friendly so that people affected feel understood and included.

To achieve this aim volunteer Dementia Friends champions will run information sessions to boost awareness and understanding about the condition and to help the society reach their target of creating more than four million Dementia Friends by 2020.

Mr Hinds said: “One way I can support this aim has been to become a Dementia Friend champion myself and to run information sessions which aim to create a better understanding of how we as a community can support people with this condition. I hope as many people as possible will be able to join me for this event.”
