MP Jeremy Hunt has declared it "a great day for Farnham" following a majority 'yes' vote in the Farnham pedestrian referendum that he launched in May. The result, announced last Friday less than 24 hours after voting by post, internet and smartphone closed, was narrowly in favour of the principle of introducing shared space and a possible part-time pedestrianisation of Farnham town centre. The Electoral Reform Services, which conducted the poll, funded by donations to South West Surrey Conservatives, confirmed that there were 4,327 'yes' votes and 3.928 'nos' - a margin of less than 400.
