PEDESTRIAN Samantha Hutchison was more than four times over the drink-drive limit when she was killed on the A325, an inquest heard.
Nine seconds after the 43 year old was knocked down, she was run over by a Citroen Picasso, leaving her with severe injuries.
Basingstoke Coroner’s Court heard that neither the motorcyclist, who was uninjured despite falling off his bike, nor the car driver were at fault.
The post-mortem examination revealed that Ms Hutchison had 329 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood in her body – the legal limit is 80. She suffered “severe traumatic injuries” to her back, several fractured ribs and multiple lacerations to her face and torso, the inquest heard.
Motorist David Barnes told the inquest that he had not realised what had happened and thought he had simply run over “debris”. Mr Barnes, 54, from Liss, was initially arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving but was not charged. He was, however, charged with failing to stop after being involved in an accident, and failing to report it after he did not return to the scene.
He admitted both charges and was given seven penalty points and ordered to pay £448.
Coroner Andrew Bradley recorded a verdict of accidental death. Ms Hutchison leaves behind a seven-year-old son.
