A PETERSFIELD mum whose baby was diagnosed with eye cancer may have saved the sight of dozens of children.
Katy Bishop is celebrating after the Department for Health agreed to include the symptoms of eye cancer in a guide for new and prospective parents.
The 32 year old from Queen's Road has tirelessly campaigned to get the information in the Personal Child Health Record.
She believes her son, Owen, could have been spared chemotherapy if the "little red book" included the symptoms of retinoblastoma and eye cancer.
Doctors took five months to discover that Owen had tumours behind both his eyes despite showing the classic signs of the disease.
The bubbly child went through months of painful treatment in 2010 but is thankfully now in remission and has retained his sight in one eye.
The good news is that dozens of other parents and children could be spared the same anguish through early recognition, as details will be added to the booklet with immediate effect.
