SO much money was raised by the Haslemere Museum in a Million campaign, it has been shortlisted for a national award.
A staggering £1.3million had been donated by November 2017 to the vital campaign to secure the long-term future of the museum, which was launched in February 2013 in its 125th anniversary year.
Already the winner of five national awards since 2012, the ‘jewel’ in Haslemere’s crown is hoping to add a sixth this year.
Its Museum in a Million campaign has been shortlisted for the Museums and Heritage Awards for Excellence 2018 in the category of ‘Fundraising Initiative of the Year’. The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on May 16.
The annual awrds, now in their 16th year, recognise projects of excellence, innovative and ground-breaking initiatives from galleries and visitor attractions across the UK and overseas.
These range from remarkable achievements of national institution to projects crafted with limited resources and those championing their staff and volunteers who work hard to deliver inspiring visitor experiences.
The museum’s major fundraising campaign was supported by individual donations and bequests by benefactors, as well as a range of fundraising events, including talks, demonstrations, tennis, golf, afternoon tea and bridge, a classic car day, branded goods and auctions.
The names of those who contributed have been recorded in a leather-bound Benefactors Book which will be treasured as a piece of the museum’s history.
Museum curator Julia Tanner, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award which is a fantastic achievement.
“We very much look forward to attending the awards ceremony in May and are keeping our fingers crossed for a win.”
“This vital fund will now help keep the museum at the forefront as a centre of excellence. ”
