HASLEMERE Museum is hosting a range of activities at the start of next month as part of nationwide initiative to coincide with a new BBC TV series.

The Civilisations Festival is a partnership between museums, galleries and the BBC to coincide with a new version of the original ‘Civilisation’ programme, which was presented by art historian Kenneth Clark in 1969, which explored the history of western art, architecture and philosophy.

The new series features historians David Olusoga, Mary Beard and Simon Schama and will expand the scope to discover the visual culture of societies around the globe.

On Saturday, March 3, the museum, in the High Street, is hosting gallery talks by collections manager Lindsay Moreton, inspired by local early Romano-British cinerary urns; object handling sessions to discover more about the Ancient Egyptian civilisation through shabti, scarabs and mummy wrappings; and a family workshop led by artist Diana Burch.
