COMPOSER and pianist, Jack L McClure from Farnham has been recognised for his musical talents and abilities, after releasing the sale of his new album Kingdom - which is loaded with soundtrack, modern and classical music - on Amazon, iTunes, Spotify and HMV.

Jack, 21, has always had an interest in music, especially throughout secondary school and sixth form college, where he was a member of several bands and choirs. But it has only been in the last four years or so that he has not only been interested in playing music but composing it as well.

Since then, Jack has been composing music that ranges from simple piano melodies to full orchestral scores – iTunes categories his music as ‘soundtrack’ rather than modern classical.

As well as music he is a talented photographer and has made a number of short films, “While some of my music perhaps does hold a certain amount of ‘classical’ qualities, it is far more contemporary in overall nature and more akin to modern film scores though the style can change dramatically from one song to the next,” he said.

Songs like Aurora, Kingdom and The Arrival hold a more lyrical feel with soft strings, harps and guitar being the main focus, whereas Sanctuary has the qualities of a Gregorian chant and The Deep Bellow holds a darker presence and an overall feeling of mystery.

As well as playing the double bass and singing, in the past Jack has taken up the violin, bass guitar and piano, all of which are self-taught.

Jack continued: “It was a great feeling when my work was finally released after working for so long on it.

“I would like to say it was easy but that is far from the truth. Some songs took maybe a couple of weeks to fully realise, others took over three years to create mainly because I initially didn’t have the means to create the song as I imagined it.

“To make things worse, I released the album independently, without the help or guidance of any label.

“But, the internet is a wonderful thing and I was able to find a company called Ditto Music, which is a company specifically for unsigned artists such as me that allows them to promote and release their music with relatively little hassle.

“It allows you to keep full rights to your music and does not take a cut. I was wary to begin with but after looking around and hearing from others who have used the service, it came up with a glowing reputation.”
