AN EAST Worldham Farm is set to become "home from home" for a Muslim leader next month. The Ahmadiyya UK Muslim Association is in the process of buying Oaklands Farm on Green Street in East Worldham. Once the sale goes through, the site looks set to be visited by more than 20,000 muslims for their annual convention in July. Thousands of muslims attended the last Jalsa at the MOD site at Rushmoor Arena, Aldershot this year. The convention has been held in the UK since 1984, but the number of people wishing to attend has grown to the point that the current site is too small. The sale of the farm is due to be completed at the end of October. Head of the World-wide Ahmadiyya Community Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad is currently living in a flat in London and is looking to use the farm as a weekend retreat. Project director Nasser Khan, who is in charge of the farm's purchase, said: "We found Oaklands and it suited us. Its 208 acres allow for a good function and people are familiar with us and the area. It's a beautiful farm. "We want to use it, firstly, as a retreat for the leader and, secondly, to hold the convention there. "All our events are in south east London around the A3, so it seemed ideal." Mr Khan said: "We've got to make sure that we don't disturb the peace. "Our motto is 'love for all hatred for none'. We're very conscious that we do not want to create alarm in a community that's already afraid. "We want to reassure the people of Alton and Hampshire that we can only bring good things to the area. We're fundamentalists, not extremists. "Terrorism is evil irrespective of religion. Anyone condoning it cannot be a man of faith. We're against those people. We are concerned that people are not put off and that by moving to the site we will only add to the enrichment of the area." Speaking about Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad he said: "He's a farmer with a Masters in agriculture and wants to encourage the community to be more self-sufficient. He has a background in farming so can do farming there. " The plan is to keep livestock at Oaklands and maintain it as a farm. Speaking about their last convention, Mr Khan said: "It was an enormously successful event. We invite as many non- muslims as we can." The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association is now looking forward to holding meetings at a site it owns. Their base mosque in Morden is the largest in Europe and was completed in October 2003. The building itself was funded solely by fundraising events as is the purchase of the farm. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association, established in 1914, always holds its annual meeting in the last week of July on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
