AN Elstead resident who witnessed strange lights moving across the night sky on Saturday has spoken of his confusion over the bright objects that appeared to be travelling in formation without making any noise at all. The man, who wished to remain nameless, told The Herald that there were five orange coloured lights that looked as though they were flying in formation above the village just before 10-30pm. He said that the UFOs were completely silent as they travelled across the sky and wondered if anyone else had seen the same thing. "I saw these bright orange lights on the horizon and at first I thought that they must have been Chinook helicopters because we get a lot of those," he explained. "As they got nearer you could see that they were flying in formation and they weren't making any noise at all. I ran upstairs and told my wife that I thought I had witnessed UFOs and then tried to take some pictures of them. "I just couldn't work out what they were and they were very peculiar. Perhaps they were something to do with the military, I just don't know." Dennis Holmes, chairman of Elstead Parish Council, said he wasn't aware of anyone else having witnessed the phenomena but explained that the military had been training on the common that evening. "The only thing I can think of is that they might have been military flares that blew across the sky," he said. The eyewitness refused to believe this explanation, adding: "I've lived on the common for 34 years and I know what military flares look like. These weren't flares, and besides, there wasn't any wind on Saturday night."
