AN air of mystery hangs over a new school to be opened in the Farnham area.

In an advert published in The Herald last week, the Eastbrook Education Trust (EET) stated it was looking for a headteacher to be based at a school, which is opening in September.

The advert said the school is being set up by the merger of two educational trusts representing a group of parents who have withdrawn their children from mainstream education.

It went on to state that pupils in year groups seven to 12 would be taught a range of subjects including English, mathematics, and science for three days per week at the school.

But a trustee of the Alton-based Eastbrook Education Trust, Robert James, would not be drawn on the advert.

Mr James stated that premises already owned by the EET would be used for the school but he refused to be drawn on the location of the building.

The EET is believed to represent members of Christian group, the Plymouth Brethren.

A planning application was agreed by East Hampshire District Council in August 1999, giving the Trust permission to build a detached single-storey resource area and classroom at the back of the Christian meeting hall on Vicarage Hill, Alton.

It is unknown whether this will be the site for the new school.
