ALTON teenager Naomi Van Dongen’s speed in the pool has resulted in an invitation to attend the British Summer Championships at Pond’s Forge in Sheffield from July 26-31, which concludes tomorrow (Sunday)

Naomi, 16, a member of Alton District Swimming Club, secured places in the 50m and 200m breaststroke events while competing in the Scottish National Age Group Championships in Glasgow in April. Her times put her in the top 24 in the UK, triggering an automatic invitation to the prestigious championships.

She will also compete in the 100m Breastroke a week later at the same venue for the ASA Summer Nationals, for English-based swimmers, where she will be joined by Jess Cross, 15, and Ella Hamilton,14.

Jess races in the 50m and 100m butterfly and Ella in the 100m and 200m breaststroke.
