ALRESFORD Town Football Club has a new fixture board at its Arlebury Park ground.

The board was unveiled by New Alresford Town Trust trustee Roy Gentry last Saturday prior to the club’s Wessex League Premier game against Cowes Sports, which Alresford won 4-3 to finish fifth in the table.

Among those at the ceremony was Stuart Munro, managing director of Drew Smith who, according to Mr Gentry, had “transformed Alresford into a top Wessex team” and had provided welcome sponsorship of £1,750 for The Avenue on which Arlebury Park is located.

The fixture board was part of The Avenue improvement scheme.

In thanking Mr Munro for his support for The Avenue, an important entrance to the town and whose upkeep had risen to £7,000 per year, Mr Gentry pointed out that “essential” sponsorship for maintenance of the area had come in addition from New Alresford Town Council (£1,250) and Friends of The Avenue (£900).

The remainder had come from New Alresford Town Trust funds, while The Avenue committee, led by trustee Keith Divall, were drawing up further fundraising schemes.
