A NEW youth club has launched at The Bungalow in Upper Hale, aimed at girls aged between 10 and 13.
Girlz Club has been set up with funding from The Community Foundation for Surrey as part of a girls project, with attendees saying they “really enjoyed it”, “it was amazing” and “there were lots of activities to do”.
After the successful Girlz Club Christmas Fest, this weekly club will be held every Monday, term time only.
At this Christmas launch, the girls took part in a variety of activities that they had suggested, including some craft activities, nail art and edible gift making.
The centre manager, Cathy Burroughs, said: “The club is aimed at girls only, to give them space and support without male peer pressure and to provide positive role models, fun activities with an underpinning of resilience building, improving self-esteem, providing choices and encouraging health and well-being.”
The club has received a lot of support already from volunteers, small businesses and local schools, including Hale Primary School and Heath End, in the lead up to its launch.
Emma Swinden is the youth club leader and said: “I’ve enjoyed seeing how the girls have engaged in the club so far.
“It’s great to be in a position to be offering support to young women in an important transition in their lives .”
