BORDON'S superfete could be resurrected if new committee members are found.

A meeting was due to take place on Wednesday at Mill Chase's Leisure Centre.

There will be no superfete this year - the group did not hold its agm - but the fete could make a comeback as a millennium event.

Whitehill town and district councillor Zoya Faddy welcomed the news about the possible re-launch of the superfete.

She said: "That's terrific. That's good news. People have always said they have enjoyed the fete.

"It's a terrific opportunity to bring people together in the community, but it does take a lot of commitment and hard work and a lot of credit is due to the previous committee."

Mrs Faddy also praised the idea of trying to make the fete a millennium event, and said that when Whitehill Town Council asked people to come forward with ideas to celebrate the millennium only one person did so.

Headteacher of Mill Chase School, Tony Philpott, was involved in an advisory role with the last superfete.

He said: "I'll be involved with a certain amount. I couldn't be a committee member, but I do try to support them."

Mr Philpott added that the fete "provides a focus for the area".

New momentum has been given to the superfete by Steve Johnson, who says that he "got the ball rolling". He said he was confident the fete would get a good start, as "we have got a full year. The problem arises when it happens at the last moment."

Mr Johnson is looking to Whitehill Town Council for support, as he said: "We now have time to go to the council to see what money they have got left from last year."

He is also urging the people of Whitehill and Bordon to get involved with the fete.
