THE definitive guide to what's on in and around Bordon is set to hit doormats soon, following its official launch last Wednesday. The Discover Whitehill-Bordon Guide is the first complete guide of community activities in the area and will offer residents a directory of the wide range of exciting clubs and events available. The discover Whitehill-Bordon brochure will also give a free publicity boost to the 110 different featured activities, clubs and organisations. The guide covers a range of activities for all age groups including heritage and culture, arts and music, sport and health, leisure, learning, young people and the under fives. The idea for the project arose from discussions with the Woolmer Forest Heritage Society which is working to set up a new discovery centre for the area. As a discovery centre is some way off, the society agreed to join with other cultural and leisure groups in the area to see how it could work together to bring that vision a stage closer. The project group aims to establish a 'Discover Whitehill and Bordon' website within the next six months and will then start working towards the establishment of a full discovery centre. Any community group or new initiative not entered in the guide can still be entered on the Discover Whitehill and Bordon website, which is due to be launched next year. Project chairman county councillor Adam Carew said: "The 'Discover Whitehill-Bordon Guide' is the first ever directory of its kind. Contrary to belief Whitehill and Bordon has a very active local community and we felt it was about time we created a directory of all the local activities so residents and visitors can see just how much actually goes on here. "My thanks to all the members of the team who have worked so hard to get this project off the ground, and in particularly to project officer John Best and Hampshire County Council for their full support. "Most of all I would like to pay tribute to all those people in Whitehill and Bordon who are working continuously to provide such a wonderful range of opportunities for us to enjoy. "Never again can anyone say 'there's nothing to do in Whitehill and Bordon'.
