ALTON looks set to get a new town centre library in the year 2001.
In a statement this week, Hampshire County Council confirms that while Alton library is in a good location, the existing premises are "unsuitable" and are coming to the end of their natural life.
It is therefore considering proposals to provide a new facility next to the existing library,with surplus space on the site being given over for housing, which would help towards the cost of the project.
