A NEW library for Alton is on the cards at last. Hampshire County Council announced this week that provision is to be made for it in next year's capital programme (year 2000/01).
County councillor Tony Barron, who has campaigned long and hard for this development, welcomed the news which will at last see the library move out of the "temporary" quarters where it has been since 1969.
