ALTONIANS could soon see the implementation of a number of "no waiting" parking restriction areas around the town. Alton town councillors have welcomed the proposals, put forward by Hampshire County Council's environment department, following concerns raised as part of the Alton Town Accessibility project. According to director of environment Alison Quant, the proposals have been developed "to resolve issues of obstructive and indiscriminate parking in areas where visibility and safe manoeuvring of vehicles is impeded". In all cases, parking is said to be occurring in locations where it is inadvisable to do so, as indicated in the Highway Code. Providing or improving the parking regulation in these locations will, it is said, allow for more effective enforcement and parking control. The areas concerned are as follows: l Existing "no waiting" between 9am and 6pm to be replaced by "no waiting at any time" at the junction of Butts Road with Queens Road. l Proposed extension along Butts Road (in front of the Conservative Club) to existing "no waiting at any time" at Ackender Road's junction with Butts Road. l "No waiting at any time" proposed for the junction of Greenfields Avenue with Old Odiham Road and across the entrance to the cemetery opposite. l A combination of "no waiting at any time" and "no waiting" from 9am to 6pm on both sides of the St Lawrence Road bend near the entrance to the former recycling centre and at its junction with Victoria Road, extending down Victoria Road towards Normandy Street. l "No waiting at any time" at the junction of Youngs Road and Victoria Road, opposite the rear entrance to Alton County Infants' School. l "No waiting at any time" proposed for the junction of Victoria Road East with Nursery Road (opposite the garages). l "No waiting at any time" in Linnets Way, on both sides of the bend by the side access of Alton College. l Extension of existing "no waiting at any time" along Anstey Road to embrace the Park Close Road junction. The restriction will also cover the stretch of Anstey Road (opposite) fronting Alton Health Centre, continuing on to embrace the exit, as far as the bus stop to the east. l "No waiting at any time" proposed for the junction of Lansdowne Road with Anstey Road and with Adams Way opposite. l Proposed "no waiting at any time" at the junction of Anstey Mill Lane with Anstey Road and on either side of the entrance to Anstey Park.
