TOWN and county councillor Andy Tree believes everything will work out for Whitehill & Bordon’s regeneration.

However he realises the 44 days of Liz Truss as prime minister have made the huge task harder.

He said: “I remain cautiously optimistic but feel I will need to be fighting more than ever in the coming years for my fellow residents in Whitehill, Bordon and Lindford to get what we deserve.

“These are difficult times, and I understand this as a fair and reasonable person.

“But I will always be holding those in power to account to ensure any delays have genuine valid reasons and can be worked through and are not simply excuses not to deliver as promised.”

Conservative Cllr Adam Carew, who represents Whitehill & Greatham on East Hampshire District Council, was just pleased to get order back into national politics.

He said: “Let’s hope Mr Sunak will be a unifying leader. Sunak, it is hoped, should bring some professionalism and stability to the post and government that has been sadly lacking of late.

“It’s too early to tell what this means in terms of policies, but he has said he will stick to the 2019 manifesto and we can expect a much tighter focus on the economy from now on, although any return to austerity will not be popular.

“One thing is for certain – the public are fed up with parliamentary pantomime that has made the UK government a laughing stock on the world stage while British people are crying out for urgent help with inflation, mortgages and the cost-of-living crisis.

“With a general election less than two years away now – and so much to deliver and put right, especially on the economy – this must signal the end of Whitehall farce and a return to the serious job of politics.

“With so many people in Britain now struggling financially, there will be no second chances for either Mr Sunak or the Conservative Party.”
