A PLAN to build nine homes following the demolition of an existing house in Courts Mount Road, is set to provoke another round of bitter controversy when it comes up for discussion.

The full application to build in garden of Howberry, 20 Courts Mount Road, includes the development of four two-bedroom homes, three, three-bedroom houses and two detached properties on the site.

The proposals follow a planning inquiry by a government officer last August for several outline planning applications on the site.

The decision to allow outline planning for the nine homes angered local residents and councillors. They criticised the inspector for "giving developers a green light for town cramming".

Three outline planning applications for the development of 13 homes, another for four, and the successful plan for nine homes, were opposed by several groups in the town including the Haslemere Society, the watchdog which comments on town development.

The plans by developers Bewley Homes are expected to be discussed by Waverley planners in the near future.
