THE push by a multi-millionaire to create a high-goal polo training centre at Barfold Farm Estate continues apace with a fresh plan for 40 stables following four previous failed attempts.

Adrian Kirby, who founded Cortium Sports, and plays high-goal polo for the Cortium team, got the green light on appeal last year to hold up to 20 competitive matches annually on his Barfold Farm estate – and to convert an old signals station next to the polo ground into a clubhouse.

Waverley planning officers recommended a previous application for planning consent to stable 40 polo ponies close to the Haslemere polo ground should be granted, in February.

But southern area committee members voted overwhelmingly to refuse the application as inappropriate development within the green belt.

A fresh plan has now been submitted to relocate the proposed stable yard development into and around an agricultural barn in a clearing close to the Petworth Road.
