THE annual meeting of Whitehill Town Council will be held next week, when the top councillor positions will be decided for the coming year.

The meeting, scheduled for Monday evening, will see members voting for a new chairman, who is also the town mayor; deputy chairman, who is also the deputy town mayor, as well as a leader and deputy leader.

Currently, Sally Pond is Whitehill’s mayor and Adam Carew is Whitehill Town Council’s leader.

The role of mayor is a civic position, with duties including community visits, representing the council at public functions and events.

However, the role of leader is a political post, with he or she having more of an influence over decision making and the direction in which the town council is going with regards to policy.

The evening, like most of Whitehill Town Council’s meetings, will also feature a 10-minute public question time. The meeting starts at 7.30pm in the council chamber at the Forest Community Centre in Bordon’s Pinehill Road.
