Sir, – Last Wednesday, as the snow fell, I was lucky enough to be sharing a glass or two of mulled wine with the drivers from the Farnham Voluntary Transport Association at their post-Christmas party.
We were there to thank these remarkable people, who give their time so freely and with such good humour to help others.
They were full of anecdotes and the atmosphere, despite the plummeting temperature, was warm and friendly. However, one item of conversation that did recur was the shortage of new
volunteers.
It appears to be a growing problem and yet there must be people in the town with a car and a few hours to spare.
If you have a car and are recently retired or semi-retired or, if you find yourself with a little spare time for any other reason, you might find that you enjoy this new challenge and would be helping so many people.
