NEW Year’s Day was a poignant day at Frimley Park Hospital after midwives welcomed 13 new babies into the world, including healthy Sophie Jane Carmel Latter to first-time round parents Nicki Young and Mark Latter from Farnham.

Nicki gave birth to Sophie at 9.54am on New Year’s Day although two days earlier than her expected date of delivery which was January 3, she weighed in at a healthy 7lbs 14oz (3.58kg).

Mother Nicki couldn’t be happier: “It was such a wonderful way to start 2016. I felt relieved that she was here and that she was OK as she let out a little cry as soon as she was born. When she was placed straight onto me the overwhelming feeling of love that went through me was just amazing.

“I don’t think I could possibly properly describe the feeling of finally meeting the little girl that I’d been carrying for the last nine months.”

“The labour was very quick – one hour and 18 minutes in total. It went well with no complications. My waters broke as I was walking into the hospital. Sophie’s dad Mark was thankfully at home with me when the contractions first woke me in the early hours of January 1.”

A spokesperson from Frimley Park Hospital noted that 10 of the 13 new borns were girls. “The first baby arrived at 12.27am and four more arrived before 5am, so it was a very busy first few hours.”
