PETERSFIELD is officially on the trail of Christmas after the town's twinkling lights were switched on in fine style on Children in Need night last Friday.

Some 2,000 people turned up in The Square for the special event, which combined with fundraising and the start of a family Christmas Tree Trail where there is still the the chance of winning a magnificent £250 to be spent in participating shops in the town.

In all, £726 was raised on the night for the BBC appeal which will be added to amounts raised from the town's Christmas trail.
