CHILDREN at Alton Community Association Playgroup had a lovely surprise when they received a gift from Alton Local Food Initiative (ALFI) to help them with their gardening activities.

ALFI donated gardening tools, a propagator, little pots, compost, cress, lettuce and sunflower seeds which these mini-gardeners have used in their courtyard garden at Alton Community Centre.

In thanking ALFI for their support, a playgroup spokesman said: “Already the sunflowers are growing well, the children have taken cress home in their little pots, and the lettuce seedlings are growing beautifully in the propagator.”

Alton Community Association Pre-school Playgroup is rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted and is open to children aged two to five. The group meets at Alton Community Centre.

Spaces are available now and to start the new autumn term in September.
