Sir – The NFRC has been urged "to align itself" to the Maltings and to integrate themselves there".
When the director of the Maltings Joanna Ridout was appointed about a year ago, the NFRC was amongst the first knocking on her door.
It was made perfectly clear to us at their meeting that the mixed programming at the Maltings would continue and that a resident professional company at the Maltings was not an option. We were
welcome to visit occasionally when the programme allowed. A sensible reply – because Joanna Ridout is a sensible lady!
However, a professional company needs a home and the NFRC is homeless. "To integrate" ourselves into the Maltings, as Waverley suggests, we would need to move into the building – complete with actors, directors, designers, stage-management team etc. I somehow think there would be an accommodation problem, even in a refurbished Maltings, and the programming would be a nightmare.
The sensible move would be for the homeless NFRC to move into the homeless 'Winterwatch' part of the Redgrave!
Then we would be able to offer the Maltings a whole
educational package based on our programme of work.
This just seems like plain common sense to me.
