LAUGHTER was in short supply at Farnham Park this week after the circus took down its big top and left behind a quagmire following a fortnight of torrential rain.

A combination of one of the wettest Aprils on record, visitors to the circus and the departure of circus vehicles on Sunday has rendered the park's main football pitch unplayable for the foreseeable future.

Waverley Borough Council, which blames the damage on "an unfortunate set of circumstances", said it will ask the circus to restore the park to its original condition.

However, the site will need to completely dry out prior to any works taking place.
