NO Make-Up Day proved positively tortuous for the staff at Creative Style Hair Salon, in Alma Lane, Heath End, when they foresook all hairspray, mascara and the rest of their customary warpaint to raise funds for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. Owner Angela Pharo-Slattery found the experience especially painful, according to reports. Customers, used to seeing the ladies "made up to the nines", came in to witness their discomfort, to take 'selfies' and to donate to the cause, even if they weren't having their hair done. Teas, coffees and cakes were on sale to boost funds and a donation station, collecting jewellery and betterwear for sale, was generously supported and is still in operation. All staff have quickly returned to keeping up appearances. "That's definitely something that we would not be repeating soon," said one staff member of No Make-Up Day.
