FARNHAM'S Christmas lights, which this year will depart from the all-white theme of recent years, will be switched on on Saturday, November 20, at a ceremony in the Woolmead.

Farnham Town Council has invested some new lights and decorations and, according to assistant town clerk Sheila Rayner, there will be less decorations on the face of buildings and more stretching across the street.

These include seven additional strings of lights in West Street and illuminated holly wreaths on lamp posts in Castle Street. There will be three new curtains of lights in Downing Street and new decorations for the town's main Christmas trees.

The new lights will be blue and white.

The switch-on, at 5 pm, will be attended by 96.4 The Eagle radio breakfast-time show host Peter Gordon.

A Christmas Charities Market will take place the same day in the Lion and Lamb Yard between 10 am and 3 pm.

Local charities will be selling gifts and seasonal goods and a face painter will keep children amused.
