The future of Liphook’s last remaining bank branch remains uncertain – a month after Lloyds announced 200 branches were to closed and 3,000 jobs lost as a result.

Located in the centre of The Square, Lloyds Bank is now the only bank left in the village, attracting many private as well as business customers.

A Lloyds Bank spokesman told The Herald: “We will develop our detailed plans over the next few months and no decision to close a branch will be taken lightly.

“We will communicate with those branches that will be affected first.”

In 2014, Lloyds announced the group’s three-year strategy, which outlined a programme of planned branch closures.

A total of 152 branches have already been closed as part of this programme and the banking giant said that in the majority of cases this is due to an overlap of branches in these towns and in some cases reduced demand levels.

Another 23 have been identified and are expected to close by October this year.

The remaining 25 have not yet been named and are expected to shut by the end of 2017. All four major High Street banks have cut branches in many small towns and villages across the country.
