THE Farnham Society is seeking nominations for its prestigious Amenity Awards, presented every two years.

In 2015, nominations were formerly selected by the society’s planning committee - but this year it was decided to open up the opportunity to members and Farnham residents generally.

The scheme started in 1982/83 and since then numerous buildings and schemes have received recognition, including works to the Maltings, the Gostrey Meadow bandstand, the Garden Gallery at the Museum, Disability Challengers, works at St Joan’s Centre and at the Farnham Pottery.

Two years ago plaques were awarded for works to Daniel Hall and the Farnham Pottery. The Forge in Upper Church Lane and Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe were each highly commended.

The purpose of the awards is to encourage and stimulate architects, developers and contractors to undertake the highest level of design and workmanship in new buildings, and in preserving and improving existing ones.

It can be a contemporary new build, or an improvement/modernisation, in which case it should be sympathetic to the existing building and integrate well with its surroundings.

The Farnham Society is are looking for buildings which are well designed for their location, which fulfil their purpose and, ideally, are environmentally sustainable.

The building or scheme must be within the Farnham Town Council boundary, completed between June 2015 and August 2017, and be visible from an accessible route.

Further details and a nomination form can be found online at www.farn

hamsociety.org.uk. Alternatively, questions can be directed by email to [email protected]

The closing date for nominations is Friday, August 25. Award certificates and plaques will be presented at The Farnham Society’s AGM in May next year.
